What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is talk therapy with a trained clinician to discuss, process, cope with, treat, and heal from emotional discomfort and mental illness.

Uncomfortable symptoms are alleviated through their identification, naming, and verbal processing usually by additionally suggesting various coping mechanisms and the use of therapeutic tools. Psychotherapy also can help with strengthening one’s sense of self, enhancing their self worth and self esteem, improving confidence, and achieving personal goals.

My Approach

As a psychodynamic and relational therapist I emphasize the importance of human relationships I pay attention to your present relationships, explore past relationships, and assist with identifying patterns, themes, reenactments, or connections. Traumas are also explored. Relational Therapy also maintains the belief that the most effective tool for change is the relationship between client and therapist. I will consistently be aware of our relationship and how it is impacting therapy.

Often people enter therapy due to feeling stuck in their job, are not achieving professional goals, or don’t know what their goals are. We can work on building self esteem, goal identification, and goal achievement. We can work on what you would like to work on!

The Process

We will spend time focusing on a number of areas that are important to you to process through, gain awareness on, and heal from. Some of these areas may include life transitions, interpersonal relationship challenges including codependency and attachments, difficulty achieving personal and professional goals,  substance use & addictions, inner child work, postpartum and parenting challenges, and traumas.

We will identify and strengthen coping mechanisms to help manage and alleviate difficult emotional experiences. We can also come up with a plan on how to best manage those emotions, along with scheduling brief email or text check-ins throughout the week to help with implementing the tools we discuss during sessions. We will also reinforce coping mechanisms that you already utilize.

Our sessions are about you so the focus will be on you, your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. That being said, we are forming a relationship, so there will be times where I will bring in my experiences. You will get to know me.
